Largest regional exploration for Fireweed

Fireweed Metals Corp. June 5 announced the launch of the largest regional exploration program at the Macmillan Pass project in Yukon, Canada, aiming for 14,000 meters with four rigs at its most advanced deposits.”We are excited to commence the largest regional exploration program Macpass has ever seen,” said Fireweed Metals interim CEO Peter Hemstead. “Comprising 6,000 meters of drilling at greenfield targets, as well as comprehensive ground and airborne geophysical and geochemical surveys, this regional work will aim to unlock over 40 kilometers of an under-explored prospective trend at Macpass.”Accumulating more data for an updated resource estimate, the 2023 program utilized five rigs to complete more than 22,500 meters of diamond drilling at the Boundary, Tom, and Jason deposits at Macmillan Pass.The two most advanced deposits at Macpass, Tom and Jason, host 11.2 million metric tons of indicated resource averaging 6.59% (1.63 billion pounds) zinc, 2.48% (620 million lb) lead, and 21.33 grams per metric ton (7.7 million ounces) silver; plus 39.5 million metric tons of inferred resource averaging 5.84% (5.08 billion lb) zinc, 3.14% (2.73 billion lb) lead, and 38.15 g/t (48.4 million oz) silver.Further digging into its known mineralized zones, the company has opted to focus on advancing what it has outlined, with a side of new exploration within the property.”As part of our growth strategy, we are also excited to be drilling step-out holes at Tom, Jason and Boundary that will primarily focus on targets that may form extensions of the major known zones,” said Hemstead.The 2024 program is planned to follow up on the success of last year and will utilize four diamond drill rigs to test targets at Tom, Jason, Boundary, and new regional generative targets. The first rig is anticipated to begin turning June 7, with work ramping up to all four by the end of the month.While 14,000 meters are planned in total, 8,000 of that is allocated for step-out holes at the primary deposits, with the remaining balance to test new targets.”Previous drilling at Tom, Jason and Boundary Zone demonstrated the very large mineral endowment and future growth potential at Macpass,” said Fireweed Metals Strategic Advisor Adam Lundin. “However, we have only just scratched the surface in testing the true scale of this district in the making.” Primary exploration targets will include:• Tom South: drilling will target step-outs that lie outside the current mineral resource, following up on successful intercepts of feeder-style mineralization from the 2023 program.• Jason: drilling will follow up on the intersection in JS23-001D1 (25.57 meters averaging 3.75% zinc, 2.5% lead, and 30.7 grams per metric ton silver) in Jason South.• Boundary Zone: drilling will step out from known mineralization at Boundary and will follow up on high-grade zones identified last year.In addition to its more advanced targets, drills will test new greenfield areas. Two currently defined prospects called the Start Zone and Popcorn are drill-ready, with the remaining meterage to be allocated later in the season as possible new targets are defined through the regional exploration efforts.The full program will also utilize a combination of airborne and ground-based exploration techniques, including a helicopter versatile time domain electromagnetic (VTEM) and magnetic survey, lidar survey, ground-based gravity on both local and regional scale grids, soil sampling, prospecting, and mapping.This program is overall designed to delineate and advance current prospects, showings, and anomalies, as well as explore new targets in a commodity-agnostic manner.Ultimately, the primary focus of the program will be on new sediment-hosted zinc, lead, and silver targets. However, the program will also include a number of targets with the geological potential for reduced intrusion-related gold systems.”This summer’s exploration program is focused on growing the district’s mineralized footprint through drilling many of the compelling greenfield targets for new discoveries, as well as step-out targets at Tom, Jason and Boundary,” Lundin said.
